The State of Rhode Island

08 Jan

While I am not a real “New Englander”. I live in Rhode Island for almost 5 years now and wonder still if it was a wise move.

I do love the scenery and the food. I love the cool summers in the ocean state also. The state has a good secondary education for anyone who wants to learn and is motivated. These are all good qualities about Rhode Island.

There are a few things I do not like about the state also. The high taxes and little support and incentitive for entreprenuers and small buisness owners here. The anti affiliate taxes that started in Aug. 2009.  The housing crisis and poverty.

With so many assests most I haven’t listed, there is so many things that could be “fixed”. The large amount of abandoned buildings and lost space here. These sites could be repaired and used to house people or develop  volunteer centers to improve the city and state as a whole.

Why not make a space for young entreprenuers and small buisness owners?

Kids here are carrying guns and wasting their lives thinking as long as they have some nice clothes and a gun also some welfare checks and foodstamps, they are set for life.

The newest and latest fashions and a cellphone is the only thing some of these teens and young adults care about. They see nothing else and for others, the way out of the projects is to signup for the Military.

I see so many kids after school is out who just need a “place”. Place meaning somewhere they fit in and belong. When you see kids fighting and cursing each other in front of an elder or older person, you have to wonder if they are really OK with themselves and is there anyone at home to tell them this is not OK?

I am no expert on kids. I speak on this because I was one once. I carried a weapon once, I had fights, I was suspened, I dropped out of High School also.

I lived with people who some would call Gangmembers. I called them friends.

I grew up in a good home and around people who loved me also. No one can protect you from LIFE. They can only give you the tools to cope.

I just wonder if the lawmakers and the hotshots in Politics here really see what is needed here and do they actually care?

They make it very easy to depend on the tax payers, but extremely difficult to be self sufficient and independent. This sounds weird to me, does it soundweird  to anyone else?
